The Audiology Department provides hearing screening, diagnosis and rehabilitation for children from birth to 18yrs. To date, FHO Audiology Department offers the only infant screening service in the country amongst other services.
Audiology services are provided at FHO Head office in Brown street as well as through outreach programmes across Fiji. The department also runs an infant screening clinic at the CWM Hospital in Suva every Thursday for children referred through the Paediatric Outpatients department. The team comprises of two qualified Audiometrist and one Audiology Technician.
Aims and Objectives
- To detect hearing loss at the earliest possible time in the life of a child.
- To ensure the child maintains optimal ear and hearing health in order to increase participation in academic, recreational and community level programmes.
- To fit appropriate assistive devices in accordance with the child’s hearing loss, and continue to support the child’s hearing journey.
- To provide awareness and education on prevention of hearing loss and safe listening practices.
